![]() ![]() Either way it is at version 1.7 so I could argue it's laziness or lack of vision for the app. The developers have confused quick to operate with simple or they just haven't implemented more features yet. I noticed that the rename feature doesn't really include many customisable parameters so seems very limited. Especially as the bulk feature appeals to those who want to save time and have things operate autonomously this lack of feature shoots the app in the foot (contradicts the automatic nature of the app). ![]() Secondly some preferences including being able to overwrite the original images (currently it exports the optimised versions to a new folder so you have to move them to the appropriate folder to overwrite them). I would have appreciated an in depth explanation of the optimisation slider perhaps with example photo file sizes at different levels and to mention that it performs as lossless at the "min" level. It reduces the file size without reducing quality of the image (which is what I wanted to achieve) in order to reduce disk space and I must say it does it pretty quickly (good job guys!). I have only tried the optimisation feature just now so can't give a full review but I tried it against another app i have and comes out with the same results. Taking a star off for the unfair and dishonest behaviour regarding the Similar Software list. There are some obvious ones like GraphicConverter (more expensive, much more capable) and PhotoMill (same price, more and better features). And especially poor form is how Eltima sock puppets have deliberately downvoted all alternative suggestions. The refusal to save my carefully created preset has not improved my mood. I own an earlier version (hidden somewhere, not easily accessible but based on what I see here probably hopelessly inadequate) and was thinking about upgrading my license. Very obnoxious refusal to save presets until you register (there's got to be a better way to limit the software). ![]() Photo Mill considerably more powerful but a bit of a headtrip to make work the first time. Eltima would do better to get real user reviews and stop this sock puppet nonsense. It's a pity as their software isn't too bad usually (Syncmate, CommanderOne). ![]() Clicking either one of these opens the DMG file. Many reviews look planted (not unusual for Eltiima Software). The DMG mounts in two places: on your desktop and in the Finder sidebar under your hard drive. All you really need to do is double-click the DMG file to open it and mount it to your Mac. Well, luckily macOS does an excellent job of making everything easy. RELATED: Benchmarked: What's the Best File Compression Format? So How Do I Use DMG Files? Saving your data usage on downloads is always a good thing. And that’s second reason why macOS uses DMG files: they’re a compressed format (like a ZIP file) that makes your download smaller. This little window first goes through a phase of verifying the file, and then once it’s sure the file is good, moves on to decompressing it. This is what you see when the file is opening: DMG files include something called a checksum, which basically verifies that the file is 100% intact. The main reason macOS uses DMG files is to make sure the file downloaded properly and wasn’t tampered with. ![]()
